Brigadoon X is a Norton 30 and has been in the care of East Passage Boatwrights since 2007. She was designed by Tom Norton and built by Brian Howell, a cabinet maker from Chester Ct. She is a 30’ cold molded fractional sloop completed in 1988. Her light displacement and narrow shape were inspired by the L. Francis Herreshoff Ketch QUIET TUNE. “QUIET TUNE is especially distinctive because of the way she fulfills Herreshoff’s concept of a proper daysailer – a boat big enough to be able to cover a lot of ground in an afternoon sail and aboard which one can spend the night if the occasion demands” Jones, Ted “NIMBLE, An architect and a cabinetmaker collaborate on a fast daysailer.” Woodenboat September/October 1988: 21-23.
Brigadoon X originally came to EPB as Nimble and need cold molded hull planking and deck repairs. After the hull planking repairs were completed the topsides were recovered with 6 oz fiberglass cloth glued with West System clear epoxy. She was sold in 2012 and the new owner changed her name to Brigadoon X. The next year she received some keel repairs, a new blade type rudder and an underwater hull fairing. During the winter of 2014/2015 a mahogany bow sprit was installed and a new teak hatch was built and installed. Brigadoon X is sailed in the fleet in Narragansett Bay where she routinely takes home hardware.
